Issue 7 for the Berea Schools
Excellent Education Helps Us All
Issue 7 is critical to the future of the Berea City Schools and our community because education is a necessity for quality communities. This issue protects the educational necessities.
Our schools are rated excellent, but we must keep our teachers, textbooks, technology, learning mateirals and programs that will protect that rating.
Our State funding was cut by $3 million last year and further reductions are likely. Our schools have already cut $5 million in costs and strengthened accountability. The district is down to bare bones, there is simply nowhere left to cut. Issue 7 is the only way to avoid making drastic cuts to education.
The district has outlined areas that will be cut to avoid a deficit. These include:
- Cutting 50 teachers, instructional and support staff
- Eliminating key elementary, middle school and high school courses that prepare students for college and work.
- Eliminating high school busing
- Ending vital educational activities and student programs
- Delaying updates and purchases of textbooks and technology
- Reducing after school permits
- Increasing instructional fees and sports participation fees
